Common Abortion FAQs
-
An ultrasound can show how far along you are and whether the pregnancy is in the uterus. That matters for your safety and for understanding which abortion options are even available. A limited, non-diagnostic scan is usually offered around 6 weeks LMP or later, when medically appropriate, and is performed by an RDMS OB or a nurse trained in limited ultrasound.
Even with a positive test, not every pregnancy continues. About 1 in 4 end naturally in the early weeks. An ultrasound can help clarify what is happening so you are not making decisions in the dark.
If you are considering the abortion pill, this step is especially important. The abortion pill is approved by the FDA through 10 weeks of pregnancy, but Florida law restricts abortion after 6 weeks in most cases. Only an ultrasound can confirm how far along you are.
